Vet Surgery for Cats & Dogs

At Ambassador Dog & Cat Hospital, we are able to offer surgical procedures for your dog or cat at our Los Angeles veterinary clinic using state-of-the-art surgical protocols and safety measures.

During each pet surgery, a dedicated nurse will administer anesthesia and continuously monitor your pet using electronic patient monitoring equipment. Pain management will also be provided.

After the veterinary surgery is complete, our priorities are post-operative monitoring and pain management. Our vet will also be able to provide thorough instructions for your pet's at-home care.

Veterinary Surgery Los Angeles

What to Expect from Veterinary Surgery

We will always keep you completely informed about why we are recommending a given surgical procedure for your pet as well as what steps you will need to take to prepare your pet for and care for them after the procedure.

Vet Surgical Procedures

At Ambassador Dog & Cat Hospital, we perform medical and emergency vet surgeries to help treat disease and conditions in pets or to repair injuries sustained through trauma.

Our Los Angeles vets routinely perform the following elective and non-elective surgeries:

  • Spaying & Neutering

When spaying or neutering a dog or cat, we surgically sterilize them in order to prevent disease and provide them with an extended life span.

  • Orthopedic Surgery

Orthopedic surgeries correct injuries and diseases of the bones, ligaments, joints, tendons, and other skeletal structures in your pet. If your dog or cat is suffering from a condition or injury that requires advanced orthopedic vet care, we will refer your pet to a cat or dog orthopedic surgeon near Los Angeles.

  • C-Sections

During Caesarean sections, we surgically remove puppies or kittens from their mother's uterus.

C-sections are typically performed when the mother is unable to give birth naturally.

  • Mass Removal

Dogs and cats may often develop masses associated with their skin. Masses may also grow inside their body cavity. These may threaten their health or even their life.

Mass removal surgery is a fairly common procedure for both cats and dogs.

  • Foreign Body

Sometimes, foreign objects are ingested or can get stuck inside a cat's or dog's body.

Whether your pet has eaten an object they shouldn't have or an accident has left them injured, we can perform foreign body surgery to remove it.

In some cases, specialized skills or equipment are needed to perform pet surgery. If that is the case for your animal, your vet will refer you to one of our trusted cat or dog surgeons near Los Angeles and work closely with your veterinary surgeon to ensure that your dog or cat receives the very best care.

  • Wounds

Wounds occur when living tissue has been cut, broken, burnt, torn, or otherwise damaged.

It's important that your pet's wounds be cleaned, disinfected and properly cared for by a qualified veterinarian as soon as is possible.

  • Urethrectomy

During a urethrectomy, our vets remove all or part of a cat's or dog's ureter.

  • Cystectomy

During a cystotomy, an incision is made into the dog or cat's urinary bladder to facilitate the removal of bladder stones and/or urethral stones.

  • Dental Surgery

Our veterinarians provide dental surgeries for dogs and cats. These surgeries can range from tooth extractions to gum disease treatment and jaw fracture repairs.

The Pet Surgery Process

We know that the idea of bringing your pet in for surgery can be a bit of a frightening one. But rest assured that we only recommend surgery when it is in the best interests of your four-legged friend.

We will take pains to make sure that you fully understand why we are recommending a given surgery and that you are comfortable with making the decision to move ahead with it.

If your pet requires advanced care, our vets will refer you to a veterinary surgeon near Los Angeles, and work closely with your veterinary surgical specialist to ensure that your pet receives the best possible care.

Surgical protocols at our clinic include:

Pre-surgical assessments. We will confirm the specifics of the procedure, complete a physical examination of the patient, and make sure blood tests have been completed and reviewed by the vet in order to determine if your pet faces any risk of anesthesia-related complications.

Dedicated surgical suites. We perform surgeries at our hospital in our dedicated surgical suite. We keep this room totally sterile in order to prevent infection and cross-contamination.

Surgical attire. Our staff all wear disposable caps and masks at all times while they are in our surgical suite. Those that are involved in the process of the procedure itself will also wear medical gowns and gloves.

Sterile packs and equipment. We carefully clean, sterilize and wrap our surgical instruments and equipment prior to every surgery.
